Day 3 was hot with some big rains in the afternoon North. I left the field early afternoon but some some great lightning storms and went through some incredible rain but I don't know if it hit the fields. Crossfire B-14 through easy over Alaska but WPFC knocked out in a hard fought game with Ca. South team. Today is rest day and on to quarterfinals tomorrow.

So, Crossfire moves on and WPFC is done at Regionals? That's too bad. Well, good luck to Crossfire! Looks like Crossfire is playing Boise Nationals. Is this the same Boise team that played the B96 ODP team at Starfire?

Congratulations to the XFire boys who just won the regionals championship game. Congratulations to the Galacticos boys from Oregon who played an amazing game. It was sad that there had to be one winner because both teams were very deserving. XF looked a little sluggish, possibly still impacted by the very physical and long battle yesterday with the Sporting team from California -North. Also missing the two "red carded" starting players. It was very obvious why the Galacticos were in the final game having beaten the California-South team. They moved the ball with ease, they possessed the ball better than XF and they had more shots on goal than XF. XF played great defense. The XF goalie was amazing, having saved a couple of PKs yesterday he continued his great play today to keep XF in the game. In the end it was XF's quickness up front that made the difference. A well timed through ball and a perfect finish. All in all a great milestone for the Northwest to have two teams in the final game both teams having beaten C-S and C-N. Wow!! It is great to be part of Washington Youth Soccer right now. --SOTM

I should also add that the XF coaches dId a masterful job of guiding the boys to the championship. Can't say enough about the importance of experienced coaching.. So kudos to Ralph, Dick, Nigel and Joe. Good job guys.. Way take a non-ideal situation and simply focus on getting the boys ready without egoes getting in the way. ..SOTM

As far as the northwest achievement, there was some luck involved with a classic "bracket of death" that took out some tough opposition. None of the 4 CA teams were in either OR or WA's bracket. So both teams had pretty much the ideal (which is not to say easy) path to the finals.

SOTM, I heard that XF had 4 redcards to include the coach. Is it true that a player came off the bench and punched a Cal north player. And I also heard that XF had to fly in players the night before the finals to field a team. I have never heard of a team getting 4 red cards while their opponents not receiving any . Anyway, congratualations to the NW for such a tremendous show. These two teams will make the NWCL a nice addition this coming season. I wonder what EW thinks?

Treefort - not sure of the 4 reds all for Xfire, but spoke with someone today that was at the game that confirmed a Xfire player did indeed come off the bench and throw a punch and a couple of players did fly in for the final. Maybe SOTM can confirm your question about the reds.

It was an interesting start for FW. Some really good competition. Both of the OSSA teams were good competition. The Eagles were extremely big and well skilled. It amazes me at this age how physically different the kids can be. I know there were some kids playing that were over 6 feet tall.
It was nice meeting you as well SW! I toned myself down as the rest of the tournament progressed. The officiating got better also, with Center Ref's willing to take charge of the game. Good teams playing in the tournament. I wish the fields could have been a little larger and better kept. But ultimately the boys got to play soccer and get a real good feel of what they need to work on. That was the coaches goal for this tournament!!

[/quote all in all the ref was really tough on the WA team. A CA player was injured. Another CA player went physical on the WA player. The WA player retaliated and that was the 1st red. WA team was now irate. Words between coach and ref. Coach gets red. Benches clear. WA player from bench may gets physical with CA player. 3rd red. 4th red was on field for a player who got 2 yellows. It was rather strange that no cards were given to CA during scuffle!

Congrats to the NWN Red with their 3-1 victory today over Eastside (that is if I read the score correctly). They were able to win the tourney without their starting forwards. Very impressive.

You got it right, and thanks Quiller. The NWN were not at their best yesterday against ECFC, but won in kicks against Maui (tie breaker) to advance to the final today. Eastside scored first today, but NWN came back and scored three unanswered to take the match. It will be great to get our two forwards back and also our starting center back, but the team performed very well without them. Looking forward to the Crossfire Challenge. Will SU be there?

Well...it was certainly a great representation of the top 4 teams in the Greater Portland area! OSSA is a combination of Lake Oswego and Southside clubs (Cosmos and Rangers), and the Eagles won the State Cup of Oregon last year, and came in second to Galaticos (who outplayed Crossfire, but lost in the Regional Tourament), this year, so you got to see what Oregon has to offer! One stadium is under construction, you played at Washougal High School turf field, but, you are right Doc Harris and Skyridge MS...not very well groomed. I'm glad they had good weather!

So, at the Oswego Nike Cup it shows the Cosmos and the Rangers as seperate teams. Will this be the same group of kids but now divided into different teams as what we saw at The Clash at the Border Tournament?

They and the new GRFC will show up again at Crossfire Challenge: http://www.gotsport.com/events/results.aspx?EventID=8990&Sex=Boys&Age=15ECFC had a lot of new players. Most seemed to be from their B and C teams from last year, but don't know for sure. They did not have much offense (only scored one goal in the tournament in three games) but did enough defensively to hold off the NWN and draw against them in their match. I can safely say they are not the same team as last year's that played to a draw twice against Crossfire A. EFC also had a lot of new faces, but they seem to be a pretty solid team. They have a new strong player up top and their mid field is still there. I don't think they were playing with their #1 keeper in yesterday's match, and they may have had a some others that were missing. Not sure about GRFC as I have not seen them yet, or really heard much about them. Where are you Blackbird? I do know that the core of the team is gone, split up between WPFC and Seattle United, and I have to guess that they may not have been able to replace them. I guess we'll find out about them soon enough. On another note, why did the powers that be choose to place two Oregon teams in the same bracket with River City for the Crossfire Challenge? There are three teams from Oregon coming up to the tournament and I would have thought they'd have put one in each bracket just to mix things up. I'd be a little upset to travel out of state to play against a team I saw in the regular season. Maybe the brackets will change, or teams will play outside their bracket like they did at the US Club Tournament.

I hope they correct that! Other than that...awesome competition! The best of Oregon and Washington...minus WPFC and WSM Galaticos.
