Another year has come and gone and Dragon and WPS are proud to bring you the Player of the Year award for our 4th straight year!!! This year once again we had a ton of qualified players who were eligible to win the award after being selected as one of the Players of the Week over the course of the year. This year (like in years past) we did all our voting on "Open Forum" for the most part. Only people with legitimate reasons could elect to vote via Private message or Email, and even then their vote had to go through Dragon and a committee to see if their vote would be counted. This year we had less then 10 votes not posted on open forum, and before we selected the overall winner and the runners up, we calculated the "points totals" with and without those votes to make sure no hanky panky was going on.
This year the points were calculated in this fashion (this does not mean it will be the same every year).
*if the player was on a ballot, regardless of position, they received 1 pt
*each player received points based on what place they were voted; (ie: 1st place = 3pts, 2nd place = 2 pts, 3rd place 1 pt).
*each player was also given a bonus pt (1 pt) if they were nominated as #1 on any ballot.
*the total points a player could get on any paticular ballot was 5 points.
*the committee and Dragon felt this was the fairest way to make sure the best choice overall was selected.
*no ones pts counted for more then anyone elses.
With all this being said, Dragon would like to say thank you for all of you who participated, nominated people, or sent in write ups. Truely we have some very very talented kids out there, and they are all winners!!!
Without further ado, here are the WPS-POTY "Runner's up", and the Champion! drumroll.......
4th RUNNER UP:#1 AMBER - EMERALD CITY FC 95!   Dragon has followed your youth soccer career for going on three years now, and Dragon loves what he see's! You were a Golden Glove award winner during last years state cup run, and you have had some amazing saves that Dragon has seen on serveral occassions with his own eyes! Keep up what you are doing young one, and we will be reading about you someday in the Olympics! 3RD RUNNER UP:#34 KELLY - CROSSFIRE PREMIER 94 PORTER!  ...great shot of Kelly shielding the ballThis young star Dragon has also seen for several years, and was unable to obtain a write up from her dad "RR Man" or anyone on her team (must be a don't read WPS ban lol). Was happy to get a CP from another team do you your write up though young one, and Dragon is happy to see all the votes you received. You are truely worthy of this honor and have always played with Heart & Fire from as long as Dragon can remember! 2ND RUNNER UP:#6 MAIAH - FC CRUSH ACADEMY 94!  ...Maiah "Without" her cast  What makes this young super star so special is that she was nomiated Not for what she did on the pitch, but what she did on the Bench! What a true team player that after going through such a painful injury and two surgeries that you still was with your team every step of the way; from Washington to California you were at their side. We all know you were hurting on the inside to be out on the field helping your team, but never showed it as you cheered on your team mates the best way you could. Dragon is very very proud of you and your true display of Heart & Fire! 1ST RUNNER UP:#9 LOGAN - WASHINGTON PREMIER FC 95 BLACK!  This young super star came as close as you can come without winning the overall POTY award! Less then 2 pts seperated her from the overall championship! She has been a star out on the field for her team the whole year, and even stepping her game up to a new level overseas at the Dana Cup last summer! She plays with true Heart & Fire in every match and is a "go to" player on her team. She can play most every position on the field and her left foot strikes fear into many a goalie. Great job super star, Dragon is very proud of you and he is sure he will see your name for years to come! And now our 2008 PLAYER OF THE YEAR CHAMPION!Drumroll please....#25 ANDREW - COLUMBIA TIMBERS 93 BLUE!  CONGRATS SUPER STAR! This young stud has came from adversity and risen to the top! He has overcome so many challenges on his way to being the player he is today! Andrew is also the first Male to ever win this award here on WPS and for that we are All very very proud of you!!! The people have spoken young stud, and you will go down in history now as the 2008 Player of the Year here on WPS and nobody can ever take that from you!
After reading his POTY write up, I am sure everyone can agree this young stud is very deserving of this great honor! Andrew will now have a premier spot on the front page of WPS for an entire year!; The Only youth soccer forum in Washingon, and the best in the nation with Millions of hits each month!
Andrew also gets to select which type of IPOD he would like from Squash the administrator of WPS. 
And the best part of all, that no matter where your life takes you...the EPL, the MLS, or Academic acheivement... You will forever be our Player of the Year! Congrats once again super stud! You deserve this award and Dragon is very very proud of you... No matter what you do in the future, continue to Live and Play with Heart & Fire as your war cry! Thanks and nicely said...... I also like to think of this site as caring about players of any level of play. All of the WPS readers don't make it about the best player each year, they make it about the best heart and fire story. I hope in the future more people vote, just read the write-ups and vote.
