starting next weekend
Bremerton, Wash. – The Kitsap Soccer Club will play its first-ever pre-season matches as fundraisers for two local youth soccer clubs the club announced today.
The first match will be held next Saturday, April 18, 2009 at North Kitsap High School. The match will be hosted and produced by the North Kitsap Soccer Club. The Pumas will take on the Tacoma Stars professional indoor soccer team. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $6 for children 12 and under. All proceeds will go directly to NKSC.
The club has long expressed its desire to hold its first exhibition match in the city of Poulsbo, Wash. and has worked diligently for the past several months to ensure that a beneficial partnership with the youth club could be formed. Poulsbo was the proposed original site for a club-owned and privately funded stadium developed by team owner Robin Waite.
“First off – we are fully supporting all youth soccer in our home region and worked hard to make this match happen,” said Waite. “When we decided to move to Bremerton, we all felt that Mayor Quade and the community deserved our best effort to provide a top-class match in Poulsbo. She did great job helping us with the early stadium process and for that we are grateful.”
Waite continued: “This match is a great opportunity for the city. And - with the loss of the Viking Cup youth tournament, and the attendant revenues for the youth club, we saw this match as the perfect opportunity to step up and do something positive for young players.”
The club has finalized a nearly identical arrangement with the South Kitsap Youth Soccer Club. The team will play its final pre-season match Saturday, April 25 at South Kitsap High School Stadium against Seattle Pacific University. Kickoff is at 2 p.m.
Ticket prices for South Kitsap match have yet to be finalized, but again, all proceeds for the match will go to the club, as per the first match.
The organization is also jointly exploring an on-line tickets sales option with each of the clubs. This has yet to be finalized.
KSC Season Ticket holders, as part of their 2009 packages already have entry to these matches. Notification for the holders will be doubly forthcoming via private means.
Youth Soccer Coaches/Team Fundraiser Kicks Off: The club also announced today that its on-going ticket sales fundraiser has been expanded to include individual area teams. Coaches simply need to contact club headquarters to enroll in the program which raises funds for his/her team.
The program affords teams the ability to raise funds via sales of Pumas regular-season match tickets – and at a much higher rate than traditional fundraisers. All area teams are eligible. The deadline for sales and team paperwork is Wednesday, May 12, 2009.
“These are tough times economically for players, their families and for coaches,” said executive director Ben Pecora. “We want to do as much as we can - in as many ways as we can to support and strengthen the sport at the grass roots level in our home base.”
Match-Day Positions Available: The club also seeks applications for the following match-day positions (submittal deadline is Friday, April 17, 2009):
* Stadium Announcer
* Official Statisticians
* Ushers
* Greeters
* Match-Day Volunteers
All positions will receive training but require prior experience. Regarding the statistician and announcer positions, knowledge of the game is absolutely essential.
