She is hoppy as a bunny!GU12 - The 96 Camelot - By The king of the 96s*This article was sent to me prior to last weeks action*
Alright kiddies its time for another Gu12 Pulse edition. For this we are going to break down the semi finals a bit and make a few predictions.
Champ cup
Match 1 Dos Red vs Eastside Red So far Dos is the little team that could. At the beginning of the year they were given a lot of respect, but started to struggle as the year went on. They dropped all the way into division 3. However, with an impressive tie against Crossfire they put themselves in position to make a deep run. Eastside has been one of the favorites all year long hands down. They have been an all around team with an impressive record. After their opening round Tie they have walked through the rest of the competition. Too bad for Dos Midnight is about to strike and Eastside wins this game Fairly easily.
Match 2 Glory vs Crossfire Glory has always been a solid team, but I think nobody predicted they would be in this semi. They have had pretty close games all the way through and had an impressive win against WPFC black. Crossfire has had another solid year and is exactly back where everyone though they would be. They struggled a bit in group play, but that hasn't seemed to slow them down much. This game is kind of scary for crossfire, however I think they manage to pull out a 1 goal win.
Challenge cup
Match 1 WSA United vs Eastside white These two teams have matched up multiple times this year and every single game has been one heck of a match up. WSA has gone all year only losing to 2 teams. This happens to be one of them. They have been waiting for this rematch since they didn't get a chance at them in spring league. Eastside white got the better of WSA in fall play to earn their promotion. They have been on a tear during state cup and look to be the hottest team in this cup so far. This game truly could go any way, and PK's are definatly not out of the picture. I hate predicting those so instead I will go with the hot team and pick eastside white to win it.
Match 2 Timbers blue vs Cascade These two teams have NO idea about each other. Not only have they not played this year they havn't even gotten to watch each other play. This is going to be about which team comes out and dictates play early. Timbers blue have been on a run all year long with their only loss coming to WSA. They struggled a bit in the Quarters but managed to pull off the close win. Cascade hasn't been pushe until the quarters. They completely destroyed their group and then pulled off the must win game after their break. This will be another tough game, but I have to go with the team that has shown all year they have the ability to win consistantly. Timbers take this close game.
Good luck to all teams and play with lots of Heart and Fire[/color] GU13 - Blinded by the light - by Morroco Mole Morocco’s G95 Review
*FtB is not pleased to 're-hash' an old post, but this is all we have this month. I deeply apologize to this age group
The games have been played and it is Down to Eastside FC-Bialek and Crossfire-Thomas in the girls U13 finals next week. These two teams are no strangers to each other, both teams compete in the PDL U13 Division 1, in fact this game is a re-match of the 2006-07 State Championship played between these two teams at U11. In that game Crossfire was the victor, in a back and forth match where both teams had looks at their opponent's goal. The only score came late in the second overtime on a free kick from the right side just outside the box and that is how it ended 1-0 Crossfire. Odd Fact: I am told each team has a player that played for the other team at U11. If records are correct it appears that both teams exited the state tournament last year at U12 in the semifinals, Crossfire being eliminated by NWN and Eastside was knocked out by ECFC who went on to beat NWN in the Finals. So these two teams appear to very similarly suited to each other. Lets have some discussion comparing these two reams strengths and weaknesses, who is favored?

Crossfire decided in it infinite wisdom that during State Cup would be a great time to let a bunch of emotional 14 year old girls that their coach is being fired. That worked well for an early exit.
PPFC, Spokane Shadow, River City, and NWN Blue learned that even if you pull off an upset or 2 that the road to the final is tough.
Congratulations to Crush for winning its second state title. Lets hope they can represent the state well at regionals. While no less than 7 players are leaving the team at tryouts the group that played Sunday will be all making the trek to Cali. Has any team traveled to regionals after losing nearly ½ its team? Also on the Crush front GO is again shopping his team around. He has been courting a couple of prominent NWN coaches and with the state take over of NWN does this give Crush a chance to get in to NWN and the PDL? If Crush stays with SSFC you will see huge changes this year. The Director of Coaching for SSFC has told GO that the players have moved past his coaching ability and the DOC will be the head coach this year.
It has been a great 15 month season. Now on to tryouts next week!BU13 thru BU15 - BOYS RULE! - By Gioventu' Calcio“Handling the Hormones”
As if coaches need anymore challenges added to their “plate” They have the club to listen to… and the know-it-all parents to listen to…and the self-centered kids to listen to… and tactical strategy to figure out…then, just when they feel like they have all the plates spinning on their perspective sticks….along comes one more thing!
No, it’s not ability…it’s not focus…it’s not even determination…it is the natural, yet scary event called puberty! And with puberty, there is this phenomenon called the Growth Spurt!!
It is just not fair! Hormone-driven changes are accompanied by growth spurts that transform high-pitched, baby-faced, 5 footers, into baritone, scruffy-faced, locker-room smellin’, 6 footers! And there lies in the injustice…this “change” does not happen at the same time!!
It is this phenomenon that brings out the screaming phrases from the stands, “Hold your ground son!...stay with him…don’t let his 5’10” 170lbs frame intimidate you!” And, “Hey Ref, are you going to call that, or are you going to let that man-child run over all our boys?!” “Look at that kid! Did he drive to the game today?”
If our boys have not already been introduced to the life-long lesson of, “sometimes life is just not fair” yet, it is in these volatile years that it gets put right in front of their faces! Our job as parents, is to assure the “early bloomers” that that they can not relay on their physique to take the place of foot skills, and reassure our “late bloomers” that they will catch-up someday, so don’t let it discourage them! We all face trails and obstacles in life, it is how we address them that determines the character we are building!
Good luck coaches, you will need it, to handle those hormones! ? FtB is still looking for writers for our older ages. Mmmmmmmmmmmmm What's up with that???SIDELINE SNIPPETS'I am so glad they lost, those are some of the most snooty stuck up parents and players I know of'IRON CHEF WPSTired of paying high prices for energy bars ? That may be more sugar and fillers than actual ingrediants that are good for you ? Try these, I make a couple batches at a time and freeze them.
HOMEMADE ENERGY BAR RECIPE
This homemade energy bar recipe is chock-full of goodies and will sustain even the most exhausted soccer player. Wrap them individually and make extras for tucking into school backpacks.
Ingredients:
1 egg 1/2 cup brown sugar l tsp. vanilla extract l cup granola 1/2 cup raisins (or any chopped dried fruit, I like apricots, pineapple, coconut and mango for a tropical version) 1/2 cup chopped hazelnuts (or your favorite nut) 1 1.69-oz. pkg. M&M's chocolate candies (or you can substitute carob chips)
Directions:
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Generously butter or oil an 8- x 8-inch square pan (preferably nonstick). Crack the egg into a medium-sized bowl. Add the sugar and vanilla extract and mix thoroughly. Stir in the granola, raisins, hazelnuts and M&M's and mix until combined. The M&M's can be replaced with carob chips, which will cut down on the sugar content.
Transfer to the pan and distribute evenly over the bottom, pressing firmly with your hands. Bake for 25 minutes. Cool and cut into bars or squares. Serves 8 to 12. Wrap individually in foil or cling wrap for easy transportation. Keeps for a couple weeks in the freezer if you seal them in zip top bags.
The trick here is to let the homemade energy bar cool! Getting those hungry athletes in your home to wait long enough might be a chore! Your chances are better if these are made when they're not around, but only if you can resist the temptation yourself. 2. Say "Uh oh, I knew I shouldn't put my lips on that."
3. Cheer and clap loudly every time somebody breaks the silence with a bodily function noise.
4. Say, "Hmmm, I've never seen that color before."
5. Drop a marble and say, "oh shoot!! My glass eye!!"
6. Say "Darn, this water is cold."
7. Grunt and strain real loud for 30 seconds and then drop a cantaloupe into the toilet bowl from a high place six to eight feet. Sigh relaxingly.
8. Say, "Now how did that get there?"
9. Say, "Humus. Reminds me of humus."
10. Fill up a large flask with Mountain Dew. Squirt it erratically under the stall walls of your neighbors while yelling, "Whoa! Easy boy!!"
