The list of accomplishments is long and noteworthy.
It includes training with the national team for his age group, attending elite invitation-only camps, helping his club team reach the national championships, and landing a scholarship at the University of Washington.
But for Taylor Hoss, there is one glaring hole on his impressive soccer resume: His Mountain View team has not won a Class 4A Greater St. Helens League championship.
It is the drive to win a league title and qualify for the state playoffs this spring that is motivating Hoss, a senior who will join the Huskies in August.
"I've accomplished other things," he said. "I don't care what anyone thinks about my play this year. I just want to win."
To that end, Hoss is more than willing to play the role of defensive leader and vocal motivator for the Thunder.
It is an attitude that excites Thunder coach Troy Sletten, who understands that a player with a college scholarship awaiting him might not have the passion for winning in his final high school season.
"It would be easy for him to not feel it's that important, because he's played at such a high level," Sletten said. "But he picks the guys up, and he's taking a real role of encouraging his teammates."
