Grin Good luck to Rodney! My little brother and him are teammates at KW, and I enjoy watching him in action.

Heard there was a scrimmage at 60 acres on Sunday. Anyone have any info on how it went?

Videos aside this kid, unfortunately,is not a particularly good keeper. I have seen him play over the past few years and despite his size he is probably no better then average .

The older Sounders Academy team is absolutely loaded with 4 players who are on National Team Pools. This team has a very strong possibility of being national champions this season if they all stay healthy. I understand that there are three players who have commited to ACC programs.

Let's see if MLS-level coaching helps him take the next step.

I have to agree about the U17-18 Sounders academy team. They are loaded with talent.

If you are talking about the "Starting XI" vs. "Reserves" game then I believe the starters won 7-0.

Not to question your assessment, but average when compared with whom?

Average when compared to the other WSYSA P 2 goalkeepers. I don't think he has ever even played against P1 competition. He may be a big kid but so what? I heard that at the recent SUM cupin texas he did not distinguish himself with his play.

He is still young however 1usa1 and potential may or may not be unlimited. Although i have not seen him play I am guessing he made the team for more than size...possible potential or the coaches feel they can make him a tip top keeper. All it really takes is being naturally athletic and the most important thing regardless of position a DESIRE and WORK ETHIC to become the best. Maybe they see those two traits and they trump keepers who may be better now but lack those traits in the same capacity.

I have no clue, but I'll give the kid a year on the team and then decide....I'm sure the coaches will as well. drinks

I stand corrected but having seen him play for a number of years do not think he is anything special.

Unfortunately, I have a similar assessment of the other keeper for Sounders FC.  He did was not particularly impressive when he played with Crossfire's USSDA team.

Are you talking about the kid who was the keeper for last years' XFire U16 team? If so i am not sure about your ability to evaluate goal keepers as that kid is currently on the U18 National team.

I'm not sure who they are talking about and my next sentence has nothing to do with any of the kids on any of the Academy teams.

The US youth national team coaches IMO do not do the greatest job at picking talent, so i would not hold them up on some podium or give their picks too much credit. I look up and down the list of boys who have made residency since they started the program in florida and not too many make the full US National team from that pool in the long run.....just a thought. I'm guessing that so far maybe 25%.... i think actually way less but am being nice, it would be interesting to see the stats. In the long run maybe it will change but so far I'm not impressed with how the US runs any of their National team programs.....youth-mens

No, he's not.  There was a team that went to play in Argentina, but there were very few players that went from the regular roster.  Once again, he earned a spot on that team due to the "hype."  I've seen him play a few times for Xfire and he's a better than average keeper.  This kid has gotten incredible mileage on a reputation that seems to have come out of nowhere, perhaps just from his size and natural athletic ability.  His off the field antics have really hurt him, so we'll have to wait and see what his future holds.

Eloborate please. BTW, I would agree about residency stuff in Florida and perhaps how national team players are chosen but it is still quite an accomplishment so the kid must be a good player relative to all else out there (referring to previous post)

Hey,give the kid a break. At least he was called to go....makes him part of a small select group of players in the country who even make the team pool.

Actually, I'd rather not.  One of the great unwritten rules at this site is No Bashing The Kids, and there was no call for me to cast aspersions on his character.

Thanks lugnut....it is best not to bash the kids under 18 or still playing youth soccer. They are just kids and we all should be proud of what they accomplish on the field...... what they do off should be left to the parents. Just a general opinion on parents these days overall.....WAY TOO SOFT and our society will pay down the road.

After some thought after having someone point out that it's easy for people to take words out of context, I want to add that in NO WAY was I referencing any players or parents involved in this thread. Now carry-on and lets stick to the theme of being positive about the players.....regardless of how you or I may feel about how or why kids are selected, it is 100% subjective and of personal opinion and in the end our opinions don't matter since we don't pick the kids.  evil

Does anyone know of a link to the actual roster of the Sounders FC Academy? A couple of friends' kids just made the team and I would love to be able to follow them, but I have no idea where to find the link. The National team site has a roster list for Crossfire's academy (very nice, I might add) but not one for Sounders players yet.
Are they still filling them out? or is there another website that talks about the players. It's so nice to be able to read about the accomplishments of these kids. They've worked very hard to get here, and they inspire younger ones to do the same, but there has to be a way to follow them. Any links???  Huh? Help!  Huh? Grin

Edit:  Got my answer. Thanks, Squash!  Grin  Will wait for the development academy league's website to update.
And thanks, El M. I didn't know about those links! Have a great week!   Grin

Can't find a roster either.  The Crossfire one on USSoccer's website looks to be from last year.  The only places I know of for information on these players outside of local stuff is Topdrawersoccer.com and ESPNRise.com

This is the link to the sounders web site.

Registration does not close till around August 15th if I recall from years past. Then it is usally a week or two for US Soccer to have the roster go live after they approve all the names and have all the paper work. I would think the names would be filled in by the end of August.
