Nyassi continues to disappoint, and Zach Scott should have seen his last starting assignment for the Sounders this year.

A good result, all in all.

Was he a failure as our first designated player?

Yes.

Ljungberg was an essential part of the success last year.   And a big contributor to the lack of success this year.   Overall, he was not a great designated player, after the first half of last season.   That is shown by the crap that the Sounders got for him in the trade.   Look for Slow Freddy to take his act back to Europe after the end of the MLS season.  Or perhaps before.  Surely some Swedish or French lower level team will take him...

Sounders -

The Ref today was a screw up.  If one were to set the level where a ref called the PK against the Sounders, then one had to call the much more definitive foul against the Sounders when our forward was sandwiched - and the replay clearly showed the arm and elbow of CJ Brown .   The ref should have thrown at least a couple of more yellows at Chicago, including the take down of Montero in the first five minutes.  Several other calls that I believe that referee got wrong.

Sounders need to learn how to convert corners into goals.  (not a strength of mine as a coach, so I have no suggestions to offer!!! laugh).  Heck, all our setpieces were crap.

Crossing - it has been so abysmal that I suspect that the cross to Montero for the final goal was a mis-hit.

Positives - Zak added a extra threat, an immediate impact upon the game.
- Ljunberg did not score or have an assist.
- Parke continues to impress.
- Sounders outplayed the Fire overall.
 -  Flaco played well.
- Nyassi - despite being a winger unable to cross accurately - continues to improve.
- defense played well overall.  Despite missing Hurtado and Gonzales.
-  Despite our large number of games played, we are still in serious playoff contention, and hot teams going into the playoffs do well.

Very exciting game last night !  Totally agree with the comments about the Ref - calls seemed very inconsistent throughout the game.

I know some won't like me saying this but Keller has been terrible most of the year. His depth perception is way off, he stays glued to his line on every high ball, and the ones he comes off his line he misses any tough ones. I love the guy but i think it's time to trade him to the Timbers so we can get some easy goals next year. Muhahahahahaha

I'm just tired of watching him make mistakes...not just this game but multiple goals this year. Used to be king of the box when he was young but now just a glued to the line old man.  Cry

We'll have to pry the starting goalkeeper gloves off of his cold, dead fingers.  Grin

Sigi has to be chugging on the Maalox on the flight back.  Keller put out another stinker, The defense melted down, a lack of creating creating decent chances on the attack, Blaise not preforming up to snuff, and players continuting to lose their cool, doing stupid things.   Not a good show by the Sounders.

He has fingers? I just figured he'd lost them in the off season and that's why he can no longer catch the ball.

Sounders got one point tonight, should have had 3.

I found the approach to the game interesting.   Obviously Sigi thought that the way through RSL was with fast attacks, and an aerial display.  We will never know if that was the correct approach, because the Sounders - particularly Jaqua - lacked the skill to pull it off.
Oh, and the ref was poor.  I understand his calls, and why he called or not what he did or not, but the pattern certainly favored one side.

One BIG COMPLAINT -  Why were the Sounders players slipping all over the place, particularly in the first half?   This is our home turf, we know it.  It looked like Bozos on ice skates out there............

As if I needed to say it (but Sigi did): Not good enough:

http://www.examiner.com/soccer-in-seattle/sounders-not-good-enough-to-beat-rsl-draw-slows-playoff-ambitions

The Sounders have done the hard work to battle themselves back into the MLS playoff race after a terrible start to the season. Now that they are in it, they have laid back-to-back so-so performances, and gained only one point in the process.
