Wouldn't that be nice if everyone stayed in their home town or close?  That way coachs wouldn't be tempted to place without tryouts so many that they scout while at tournaments that live far away.

They don't show up to practice for : traffic problems, weather problems, no body to carpool with because they live so far; and if they don't show for practice somehow they get a sympathy card from coach because of the distance.

Stay home and build a good club where you live.

30 billion dollar record breaking earnings for the oil barons reported.  ya think they'll be loading up on green machines for their personal use?  solar/soy powered yachts, wind generators for their mansions and oil tank farms, quadruple the number of hamsters on the ships and trucks.

It took $50.00 to fill my tank last night!
After I got over my shock, I was  evil
I'm not filling the RV, just my Vue.
Filling the Bratebago would cost me a small fortune!

just the tought of driving to the Rainier Challenge 3 days in a row is making me queasy.  I would love it if the kid could ride a bike to practice, but it's straight uphill home - dont' think that would work too well after a long, hot summer practice.

Two clubs announce "fuel surcharges" for their coaching expenses.  I will let you all decide whose pocket it is coming out of. wink

Fuel surcharges....instead of taking the high road and saying were in this all together.  Gotta make that dime, even if they continue to stick it to the customer!  My condolences if your on a c, d, e, team of some club and paying for all of that crap too!

It isn't just oil. It is everything that has to be shipped. Why do you think stamps have gone up? Food and crops are being used for biofuels. Time had a great cover story of all of this last month. Everyone- including soccer clubs are passing the costs on to the consumer. It might be enough to get to work on the infrastructure of the US and start looking at European modes of transportation. Don't get me wrong I love my car.

I did enjoy reading this and hearing the big oils execs squirm.

Just came up with a great idea.....if your the parent of one of the "A" team players for a major club you actually hold the power....without your son or daughter, said coach of said club may not be able to produce the results that are necessary to keep their job, thus if you and the other 10 parents of the starting 11 go to said coach and charge them a percentage of their pay to offset your gas costs to cart your player to all of the practices, game and toruneys!  Wow, parent/palyer revolt!  Smiley

Since I work 30 minutes from home and my son's practice are my direction my son rides the bus into the mall and I pick him up, so I save on time and gas having to drive back and forth.  The next step I'm thinking is he will take his bike on the bus, ride a connector that gets him closer to practice field and then rides his bike the rest of the way.  Finally in anticipation of all the driving I've also moved to a Toyota Corrolla.  I'm probably going to have to tell my kids that they can't go to Grandparents in Texas this Summer if the airline tickets go up more.

Now carrying on this idea of revolt and helping our fellow players throughout your club and soccer as a whole...once your first demands are met, you still refuse to return to the pitch until the cost savings is realized at all levels of competitive soccer within you organization...

Funny how you jump to the conclusion these two clubs are mega-clubs.  Perhaps they are clubs with volunteer coaches trying to find a way to help out.  Is that still "sticking it to the customer"?

I would think that the volunteer coach would apporach his/her parents about their out-of-pocket costs on a team by team basis...small clubs take care of their own...I think of the big clubs boards as "forward thinking" enough to come up with something like this....milk 'em for all there worth.

You guys don't have to get all sideways...what I heard was that the surcharge for fuel was going to be added to player fees on a per month basis.  It is not one of the biggest clubs and it is not an independant team.  But is it fair?  We all have to deal with the gas increases. :?

I'll bow to the almighty yote as well.  We're seeing a fuel surcharge on everything else... why not... at least its separated out from general expenses so once things stabalize(after our new polititians get elected  wink ) they can just lopp them off... right?  :?

Just feeling anti-mega club today!  wink   I do feel that with fuel cost rising and it impacting everything else (and it is or will) and with wages not keeping pace...it's going to get pretty bad.  I believe that travel sports will be impacted by fall if not sooner.  may see more teams staying local for tourneys or coming up with ways to reduce costs.
